In July 2006, the DLW Scholarship & Charitable Foundation was created to provide annual disbursements in the form of financial scholarships to academically eligible students from the greater Houston area attending Grambling State University. Funding for this philanthropic venture is currently derived from corporate and individual contributors and through the Annual Black and Gold Scholarship Gala, a primary fundraising event for the Foundation. The continued development of corporate contributors is essential in the Foundation realizing its core missions.
Our purpose is to provide greater opportunity for Houston area students to attend Grambling State University and to provide assistance to other non-profit organizations through community outreach events, such as back to school events, community fairs, and educational outreach programs to promote higher education in underserved, economically disadvantaged communities. It is our belief that through promoting educational opportunity in these areas, the end result will assist in developing stable communities with greater economic capability and lower crime rates. Our goals include helping to reinforce moral and ethical values and social responsibility, encouraging students to achieve college degrees, become positive members of society, who will in turn, commit to giving back to their community.
